How is Bwblin Carbon Neutral?

Bwblin offsets 50 tonnes of CO₂e emissions each year through verified projects in the Woodland Fund™ Portfolio.

This means that for every tonne of carbon we create, we invest in global carbon reduction initiatives—such as reforestation and renewable energy—that remove or prevent the same amount of emissions. Our impact is independently verified, and we receive a Certificate of Credit Retirement as proof of our contribution.

Why should I eat fermented food?

Fermented foods – like kimchi red cabbage, sauerkraut, kefir, miso, and kombucha – are packed with natural probiotics (beneficial bacteria) that support gut health. A balanced gut microbiome can help with digestion, boost your immune system, and even improve mood and energy levels.

Five more reasons to eat organic fermented foods.

Fermentation also makes food more nutritious by:

  • Enhancing nutrient absorption by breaking down compounds that block nutrients.
  • Creating new vitamins (some fermented foods naturally produce B vitamins and vitamin K2).
  • Reducing sugar and starch as microbes consume them during the process.

Plus, fermented foods are flavorful; tangy, complex, and satisfying, so they add variety to your diet while being good for you.

How do I know Bwblin's food is safe?

Your safety comes first. Every single batch of Bwblin’s organic fermented foods goes through a full independent microbiological test before it ever reaches you. Only once the results confirm it’s completely safe is the batch released for sale.

In the food industry, this process is called “positive release” meaning nothing leaves our kitchen until it’s proven safe.

Why is each pouch £8.50?

At Bwblin, we believe in being completely transparent. Each pouch price reflects not just the high-quality ingredients, but also the real costs behind making food that’s organic, vegan, carbon-neutral, and certified by trusted bodies like B Corp and SALSA

When you buy a pouch, your payment covers:

  • Ingredients and packaging
  • Postage and website upkeep
  • Marketing, insurance, and rent/utilities
  • Independent certifications (Vegan, Organic, Carbon Neutral, B Corp, SALSA, etc.)

I (Anna, the founder) take only the bare minimum for myself. I’m not in this for fancy cars or big houses. My purpose is to make healthy eating more convenient, tasty, and meaningful.

The truth is, the profit per pouch is very small, and I only break even when we sell in larger volumes. But as we grow, I’m committed to sharing profits with charities across the UK, so together we can make the world a healthier, fairer place.

When will I get my order?

We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.

What is fermentation?

Fermentation is a natural process where beneficial bacteria good for our gut is given the right environment to multiply and prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. It’s nature’s magic trick that turning fresh veg into tangy, probiotic-rich gut goodness using only salt and time. No heat, no fuss, just flavour.

Are Bwblin products pasteurised?

Nope! Never. Our ferments are raw and unpasteurised to keep all that beneficial bacteria alive and kickin’.

Is your packaging sustainable?

Is your packaging sustainable?

Yes! Sustainability is part of our recipe.

Our pouches are recyclable at most large supermarkets.

They’re made from safe plastic — free from BPA and other nasties.

Lightweight packaging means fewer fossil fuels used in transport — from our kitchen in Wales to your doorstep.

We also use glass jars with recyclable labels where possible.

And we’re proud to be carbon neutral, covering both our packaging and our process.

The planet matters to us!

How do you pronounce Bwblin?

We're pronounced ‘bubblin’’— a Welsh-inspired nod to the gentle bubbling that happens during fermentation. Just like the name, our jars are full of life. Each batch is alive!

BWBLIN is more than a brand. It’s a way of eating that celebrates craft, seasonality, and health. At the heart of everything we do is a passion for creating organic ferments that nourish the body, delight the palate, and connect people with the best of British seasonal produce.

Our artisan sauerkraut and other gut-friendly ferments are carefully handcrafted in Wales using traditional fermentation techniques. Every jar is made in small batches, ensuring each ferment is alive with beneficial bacteria and bursting with flavour. By focusing on quality ingredients and seasonal vegetables, we capture the very best nature has to offer, creating fermented foods UK can enjoy all year round.

Seasonality is central to our philosophy. We let the harvest guide our creations, using only the freshest vegetables at their peak to produce ferments that are not only healthy but deeply satisfying. From tangy sauerkrauts to bold kimchi-style ferments, each jar embodies the skill, patience, and care of our team.

At BWBLIN, sustainability and authenticity are as important as flavour. By sourcing locally and crafting our products by hand, we reduce waste, support British farms, and ensure that every ferment reflects a commitment to both people and planet.

Our mission is simple: to make organic, gut-friendly fermented foods accessible, enjoyable, and part of everyday life. BWBLIN invites you to explore the rich world of live-culture ferments, taste the seasons, and discover why handmade, small-batch fermented foods UK loves are not just food — they are a way of life.

Bwblin

Our Promise: Better for You, Better for the Planet

At Bwblin, we believe great food should do good for our bodies, our communities, and the planet we share. We’re a small Welsh business with a big ambition: to create gut-friendly, plant-based ferments that nourish people while protecting the future of our food system.

🌍 Why Sustainability Matters

The world’s food system is at a turning point. According to the EAT-Lancet Commission Report, the way we currently produce and consume food contributes to climate change, biodiversity loss, and rising chronic disease. To protect both human and planetary health, we need a shift towards more plant-based, low-waste, and sustainably sourced foods — exactly the kind of foods we make at Bwblin.

Our mission is to make those sustainable choices easy, delicious, and accessible — one ferment at a time. Our global food system is under pressure for people and the planet.

Today, food production:

-Uses over 40% of the world’s land
-Produces around 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions
-Consumes 70% of all fresh water

Yet despite this enormous footprint, in 2025 over 820 million people still lack enough food, while others consume more than their health — or the planet — can sustain. The EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet, Health highlights that diets provide an inextricable link between human health and environmental sustainability. What we choose to grow and eat directly shapes the future of both.

At Bwblin, we want to be part of the solution — not by producing more food, but by producing better food. We focus on crafting nutritious, plant-based ferments from a wide diversity of British-grown crops rather than relying on a small number of global monocultures. This approach supports biodiversity, soil health, and local farmers, while helping people eat in a way that truly nourishes both body and planet.

Better food, not more food — made from plants, for people, and for the planet.

♻️ Step-by-Step: What We’re Doing Now:
1️⃣ Carbon Neutral Certified

We’re proud to be Carbon Neutral Britain certified (2024) — offsetting all our emissions for the year ahead, including production, delivery, and office operations. This means every Bwblin product you buy has its full footprint balanced through verified carbon offset projects in Britain.

These include:
🌳 Woodland creation and tree planting across the UK — restoring native habitats and capturing CO₂ naturally.
💨 Renewable energy and wind power initiatives that reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
🌾 Peatland restoration and biodiversity protection to preserve critical carbon sinks.

All projects are independently verified under leading global standards such as the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Gold Standard, ensuring measurable, lasting environmental impact.

2️⃣ Smarter Packaging
We’ve moved from glass jars to lightweight recyclable pouches, made in Europe. Why?

🌱 70–80% lighter than glass (reduces courier freight emissions)
💡 Zero breakages and less food waste
♻️ Fully recyclable mono-material, made from European sources
🚚 Lower weight = fewer transport emissions per delivery
Our pouches are made from recyclable mono-material (PE). Please rinse and recycle with your local soft plastics collection at most supermarkets.

Next step: in 2026, we’ll reduce pouch size from 350 g to 300 g so every shipped order weighs under 1 kg, reducing our carbon impact even further.

3️⃣ Reducing Energy and Waste
We’re actively tackling food waste in every part of our process:
Partnering with FareShare — redistributing any surplus raw vegetables to UK charities instead of letting them go to landfill. Extending best-before shelf life to 6 months after fermentation (to reduce consumer food waste).
Including clear portion guidance on packaging, helping customers know how much to eat daily for gut-health benefits. Collaborating with chefs and food influencers to share recipes that reduce waste and celebrate sustainable British produce.

Even simple energy transitions will make a big difference:
Transitioning to renewable energy for your production kitchen / manufacturing partners

-Switching to LEDs and low-energy refrigeration
-Partnering with a renewable energy supplier for your facility or offsetting electricity use

4️⃣ Supporting Regenerative Farming

We work directly with local organic and low-till British farms, including smallholders who care for soil health and biodiversity. Our vegetables are seasonal, organically grown, and harvested as close to production as possible to cut food miles. By choosing British-grown and seasonal plants, we cut out long and carbon-intensive supply chains.

- Imports add around 20 Mt CO₂e to the UK’s food footprint each year. creds.ac.uk
- Food systems already produce about one-third of the UK’s GHG emissions. wrap.ngo+1
- Food miles – the transport emissions embedded in our diets – can constitute up to 19 % of total food-system emissions when full supply chains are considered. Nature+1

Diets are a direct link between human health and environmental sustainability: shifting to more diverse, plant-based foods helps fight climate change and supports better nutrition.

That’s why at Bwblin, we commit to sourcing locally, reducing transport emissions, and promoting dietary change — not just making ferments, but helping reshape the way we eat for people and planet.

6️⃣ Biodiversity & Crop Diversity Commitment

You’ve already touched this, but it’s worth a clear bullet:
We prioritise using a wide range of plant crops — from heritage carrots to seasonal brassicas and foraged herbs — helping restore diversity to UK agriculture and reduce reliance on monocrops.

Diverse plant-based diets = resilient ecosystems.

5️⃣ Transparency & Impact

We’re working on a new impact-tracking system that will show the environmental footprint of each ferment, measured in the most accurate way we can — including carbon, food miles, and waste avoided. Each year we’ll publish a short Bwblin Impact Update outlining our emissions, energy use, food waste prevented, and partnerships that support circular, local food systems.

Our Future Goals
2025–2026: Towards B Corp Certification

We’re on our way to becoming a Certified B Corporation — a globally recognised standard that measures a company’s social and environmental impact. It means holding ourselves accountable not just for profit, but for purpose — ensuring fair work, sustainable sourcing, and transparent communication across everything we do.
