Why should I eat gut-friendly, fermented foods?

What Are The Benefits of Fermented Foods?

Fermented foods have been part of human diets for thousands of years — they’re a natural way to preserve food, boost flavour, and support good health.

🌿 Why They’re Good for You

  • Rich in live cultures (probiotics): Support a balanced gut microbiome, which can help digestion, immunity, and mood regulation.

  • High in prebiotic fibre: Feeds beneficial bacteria, helping them thrive naturally.

  • Improved nutrient absorption: Fermentation increases the bioavailability of vitamins and minerals.

  • Naturally preserved: No additives or ultra-processing — just time, salt, and microbes doing their work.

  • Planet-friendly: Plant-based, low-energy, and low-waste — good for you and the environment.
How much should i eat?

A little goes a long way.

Start with 1–2 tablespoons (about 25–30 g) of raw, unpasteurised ferments a day — either on the side of a meal, stirred through salads, or added to toast or grain bowls.

For most people, that’s enough to:

  • Support daily gut health
  • Add flavour and crunch to meals
  • Provide consistent exposure to beneficial microbes

As you get used to them, you can enjoy more — up to 60–90 g per day (roughly ¼ cup) spread across meals.

Tip: Variety matters — different ferments bring different microbes and nutrients. Rotate between sauerkraut, kimchi-style ferments, beans, and fruit ferments for the best results.
